Profile Bio Text
Chantelle Brown-Young (born July 27, 1994), professionally known as Winnie Harlow or Chantelle Winnie, is a Canadian model and spokes-model. She is best known for participating in the fifteenth season, better known as the twenty-first cycle, of the The CW reality television series America's Next Top Model, where she had placed sixth in the overall fourteen participants in the twenty-first cycle. She is also known for her prominent form of the chronic skin condition Vitiligo, for which she had possessed since the age of four years old, that heavily influenced her title of a "vitiligo spokes-model."
Chantelle Brown-Young was born on July 27, 1994, in Toronto, Ontario, the most populous city in Canada, and the capital of the province of Ontario, to Lisa Young (née Brown) and Windsdor Young. She also has a younger sister Christina Harlow. She was diagnosed with the chronic skin condition characterized by portions of the skin losing their pigment Vitiligo at the age of four years old. After possessing the prominent form of the chronic skin condition, Harlow had been a victim of verbal abuse by other children and was notably called as a "cow, zebra and all manner of other disparaging slurs" throughout her childhood. The verbal harassment had culminated to dropping out of high school and suicidal thoughts. However, Harlow had finally accepted her flawed characteristic and had developed a current attitude of unresponsiveness to the negative description that other individuals have been calling her. The newfound attitude and confidence had resulted her into receiving modelling activities and opportunities which include photo-shoots for several magazine two-page spreads.
In 2014, Harlow participated in the fifteenth season, better known as the twenty-first cycle, of the The CW reality television series America's Next Top Model, where she was revealed to be discovered by the reality television show's creator and host Tyra Banks whilst she was on the online mobile-sharing application Instagram. Harlow was originally eliminated from the twenty-first cycle on the fourth episode and originally placed thirteenth. However, the creator and host Tyra Banks had revealed that an eliminated participant will be returning to the twenty-first cycle and it was revealed that Harlow and Ben Schreen had the highest public vote average out of the eliminated participant on the ninth episode. She was revealed to have achieved the highest public vote average out of the eliminated participant on the tenth episode, but was permanently eliminated from the twenty-first cycle and permanently placed sixth on the thirteenth episode.
Following her permanent elimination from the reality television series, Harlow had modeled for the casual clothing brand Desigual, where she said in the midst of an interview with the American daily newspaper New York Post, "Desigual stands for being unusual and unique and atypical, so they figured I'd be the perfect person for that. They had a new line that had a lot of dots. And some of my skin patterns are dots. In the campaign video, there’s a part where the dot on a scarf lines up perfectly with a dot I have on my waist, and I thought that was the coolest thing ever." She walked and closed for the clothing brand Ashish's Spring/Summer of 2015 fashion show during the London Fashion Week. She also modeled for fashion and style magazines that originated in United Kingdom such as i-D and Dazed. She had also modeled for the fashion website SHOWStudio.
In 2015, Harlow modeled for the highly-expensive clothing brand that originated in Italy such as Diesel. She also modeled for two languages of the women's magazine Glamour for a five-page spread.
