Wiki Bio Text
House of Horrors (1946) Approved | 65 min | Horror, Thriller | 29 March 1946 (USA) An unsuccessful sculptor saves a madman named "The Creeper" from drowning. Seeing an opportunity for revenge, he tricks the psycho into murdering his critics. Marcel De Lange is a struggling sculptor whose work and sanity are derided by the New York art critics. After waspishly officious critic F. Holmes Harmon ruins a sale for De Lange by dismissing his expressionistic cubist work as "tripe" and later gloating about it in his column, the distraught artist goes to the river to drown himself. There he discovers the half-drowned body of the notorious serial killer, the Creeper, and takes him back to his studio to recover. Feeling empowered by the friendship of the acromegalic sociopath, De Lange tasks him with murdering the critics who have pilloried him in print. When successful commercial artist Steve Morrow is wrongly suspected of the crimes, his art critic girlfriend Joan Medford decides to follow her instinct about a mysterious bust De Lange has suspiciously covered in his studio, and she decides to snoop around. Written by duke1029@aol.com Director: Jean Yarbrough Writers: George Bricker (screenplay), Dwight V. Babcock (original story) Stars: Rondo Hatton, Robert Lowery, Virginia Grey http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038621/ House of Horrors (also known as Murder Mansion, The Sinister Shadow and Joan Medford is Missing) is a 1946 American horror film released by Universal Pictures, starring Rondo Hatton as a madman named "The Creeper." It was filmed in September 1945. An entire series of Creeper movies had been planned, with this being the first, and The Brute Man (1946) being the second. However, the sudden death of the main star, Rondo Hatton, prevented any future pictures from being made. Hatton died of complications from acromegaly before either film was released; it is not known how many films were planned http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Horrors Synopsis by Cavett Binion This marked the first starring role for Rondo Hatton, previously seen in a few Sherlock Holmes films as the spine-snapping killer "The Oxton Creeper." Hatton, a giant of a man whose face was deformed by acromegaly, was luridly promoted by the studios as a "human monster" who required no makeup. Here, he plays yet another brutish character, a homicidal convict who is rescued from drowning by mad sculptor Martin Kosleck. Hatton returns the favor by killing any critic who ever gave the artist a poor notice. Though Hatton never had the opportunity to develop his acting skills before his tragic death, there is nevertheless a glimmer of talent evident here, which is put to better use in his final film The Brute Man. http://www.allmovie.com/movie/house-of-horrors-v95750
