Hayko Cepkin (born March 11, 1978 in Istanbul) is an Armenian-Turkish musician who is mostly known for the unique music he constructs that ranges from alternative rock to melodic tunes. At the same time he is a Brutal and Scream vocalist.
After graduating from high school, Hayko Cepkin studied music at the Mimar Sinan University for two years and took courses in solfège and harmony at the Timur Selçuk Modern Music Center. After one more year at Ýstanbul Academy, he started performing next to several famous Turkish artists such as Ogün Sanlýsoy, Aylin Aslým, Koray Candemir and Demir Demirkan and collaborated on albums of several artists. Picking up knowledge as being composer along the way, Hayko contributed to the works of the artists listed above in contributing to the albums such as Murathan Mungan's “Söz vermiþ Þarkýlar” which Aylin Aslým sang with Murathan as a duet.
In 2005, Hayko went on to form a band he named after himself Hayko Cepkin. The band members were Umut Töre (guitarist), Onur Þengül (bass) and Murat Cem Ergül (drummer) and Hayko as lead singer. Onur eventually left the band just before the release of second album because of his busy schedule and replaced by Sedat Oðuzsoy (bass).
Many of the songs Hayko had composed throughout his life appeared in his first album Sakin Olmam Lazým released in 2005. It included range of music from hints of classic Turkish blends to raw angst present in his rock tracks. Some of the singles released from this album include "Yarasý Saklý", "Görmüyorsun", "Fýrtýnam", "Son Kez" and the infamous "Zaman Geçti". The album received lots of airplay, support for the unique style as well as the lyrics.
In June 2007, Hayko released his follow-up second album titled Tanýþma Bitti. The first single "Yalnýz Kalsýn" found great success in the Turkish music charts. Attaining great following, Hayko performed at the annual Turkish rock music festival "Rock'n Coke Festival" and sang at sell out concerts throughout Turkey.
In March 2010, Hayko released his third album named Sandýk. The single "Yol Gözümü Daðlýyor" was made into a music video and released a few days before the album's release. Hayko subsequently made two more music videos for "Doymadýnýz" and "Balýk Olsaydým". A few months later Hayko attempted to travel outside of Turkey to Cologne [Köln], Germany and performed in the Bootshaus Night Club.
