A Grasim Mr. India (1999) first runner-up title holder, Rakesh Bapat, made his screen debut together with Himanshu Malik in Anubhav Sinha`s Tum Bin (2001). After the success of Tum Bin, Anubhav Sinha again casted him as a solo lead in Kuchh Dil Ne Kaha(2002) opposite Reema Sen which bombed at the Box Office. After that he starred in a few average films like Dil Vil Pyar Vyar in 2002 and Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai in 2005, but none of these films clicked. Rakesh failed to make a mark at the box-office and decided to turn towards television. He made his debut in the Zee serial, Saat Phere. With his cute looks and talent, Rakesh earned instant recognition on the mini screen within a short span of time. Originally from Pune, Rakesh has also done some famous ads for Colgate, Wrigley`s chewing gum, SSI-Education and Lux, Fiama di wills with Deepika Padukone etc.
Rakesh has great interest in Painting, Horse Riding, playing Tennis, Sculpting, Singing, playing the flute and sitar. Rakesh Bapat chose to leave and sacrifice his time in the daily serial Saat Phere, due to a film being made in Hollywood somewhere abroad.
He has played the role of Anuj in the NDTV Imagine show Ek Packet Umeed. He is depicting the role of an MBA graduate who helps run Umeed Bhavan and is in love with Sujata (role played by Rupali Ganguly) who is the daughter of the head of Umeed Bhavan.
He also played the role of Karan Mehra in Simply Sapne as the main actor replaced by Gautam Rode.
Shlok is the character he palyed in Seven (TV series) on Sony Entertainment Television (India). The show was produced under the banner of Yash Raj Television. The show aired evey Friday.
Good looking Rakesh Bapat is all set to make his come back on silver screen. He is essaying a modern day prince in John Mathew Mathan’s film ‘A new love Istory’written by Vipul K Rawal of Iqbal fame.
“It’s a love triangle between me, Himesh and Niharika Singh. I am playing a modern day prince. It’s a comedy-love story with a dash of drama in it,” he briefs about the film.

Raqesh Vashisth (born Rakesh Bapat) is an Indian actor and model. He was the runner up in the 1999 Grasim Mr. India contest, and first runners-up at the Mr Intercontinental. He was in television commercials for Colgate and Wrigley's gum. He played Aditya in the show Maryada: Lekin Kab Tak?. His advertisement roles led to Bollywood film roles, starting with the movie Tum Bin in 2001 and including Dil Vil Pyar Vyar and Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai. However, the movies he played in were not commercially successful or were not released at all. He made his television debut in the serial Saat Phere. He played Aditya in Maryada: Lekin Kab Tak?, Rohan Mishra in Hongey Judaa Na Hum and Shlok in Seven. Vashisth replaced Karan Singh Grover in Qubool Hai in January 2014, but did not continue with that series when it made a time leap in early 2014.
