Gerald Sheindlin (born November 19, 1933) was a judge on the television show The People`s Court from 1999 to 2001. Before that, he served on the New York State Supreme Court. He is the author of two books, Genetic Fingerprinting: The Law and Science of DNA Evidence and Blood Trail. He is married to Judith Sheindlin, better known as Judge Judy. Judy and Jerry Sheindlin married in 1977, were divorced in 1990, and remarried in 1991. For both Judy and Jerry, it was a second marriage, and between them they have five children and 11 grandchildren.
Judge Jerry joined the show bringing more than 40 years of legal experience to the bench. Jerry grew up in the Bronx and joined the Navy in 1951 which completely turned his life around! He was on probation due to low high school grades, prior to that. He then attended Long Island University and earned straight A`s! For the next 20 years Sheindlin was a defense attorney concentrating in criminal matters. In 1980 he was appointed as an Administrative Law Judge and held that post for 2 years. Next he was appointed by ED KOCH to preside in a criminal court in NYC! He quickly elevated to the New York State Supreme Court where he presided over one of the first cases involving DNA. 13 years later he retired (1999) and took the post to preside over the # 1 show, TV`s, The People`s Court! Judge Jerry retired from that in late 2000. He resides in Manhattan, with a seration to his wife Judy, better known as JUDGE JUDY!

Gerald "Jerry" Sheindlin (born November 19, 1933) is an American author and television personality. He was a short-lived judge on the television program The People's Court from 1999 to 2000 television season and most of the 2000–01 season before being replaced by Marilyn Milian. Before that, he served on the New York State Supreme Court. During his career on the bench, he authored 64 published opinions, including a 46 page opinion on the admission of DNA forensic evidence in a murder case.
