Profile Bio Text
Daphne Nur Oz (born February 17, 1986) is an author and television host. On April 14, 2011, ABC announced Oz would be one of five co-hosts on The Chew, a one-hour live talk show exploring food from all angles. The show premiered in September 2011. Oz, the eldest child of Dr. Mehmet Oz and Lisa Oz, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and raised in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, where she graduated from Dwight-Englewood School in 2004. Her siblings are Arabella, Zoe and Oliver. Oz graduated from Princeton University in 2008 with a degree in Near Eastern Studies. In August 2010, Oz married John Jovanovic, an investment fund analyst, whom she met when studying at Princeton. The marriage was officiated by a city clerk’s office staff member at the Municipal Marriage Bureau in Manhattan. Religious ceremonies followed later by the Serbian Orthodox Church and in the morning, the Swedenborgian Church in the evening, respectively. Career Author Oz penned her national bestseller, "The Dorm Room Diet" (Newmarket Press, 2006), to document her successful approach to avoiding the "Freshman 15" without sacrificing any of the wonderful experiences college has to offer. The book aims to encourage students to see their time on campus as an opportunity to develop healthy, adult habits that will last them a lifetime. The healthy lifestyle advocated by Oz, combined with the unique perspective she offered writing for college students as a current student herself, earned her and her book features in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, People, The Washington Post, Reader's Digest, Teen Vogue, Cosmo Girl! and Seventeen. Oz and her book also made appearances on Good Morning America, Fox & Friends, The Dr. Oz Show, The Nate Berkus Show, The Tyra Banks Show, and NPR's Weekend Edition. In 2007, Oz published The Dorm Room Diet Planner (Newmarket Press, 2007). A new edition of The Dorm Room Diet was published in 2010 to include a chapter of healthy recipes that could be made on college campuses, as well as a new chapter on food politics in America and the consumer's role in promoting an environment where a healthy lifestyle is the easy, accessible and affordable choice. She has also written articles for Glamour Magazine, Oprah.com, and The Huffington Post. Oz debuted a nationally syndicated column with Creators Syndicate in April 2011. Her column is entitled "Food for Thought" and covers health, relationship, and lifestyle advice. Public Speaking Oz speaks about health, wellness, and lifestyle issues, conscious cooking, and consumer education and empowerment, with a particular emphasis on encouraging practical steps towards better living. In 2008, Oz was invited to speak at Maria Shriver's The Governor's Women's Conference. Oz was also a featured speaker at The Aspen Institute's 2009 Aspen Health Forum. In 2011, Oz and her mother, Lisa, were the featured speakers at WCBS Radio's Working Women's Luncheon. Oz has delivered addresses to campus audiences across the country including Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania, Brown University, and Georgetown University. Non-Profit Work Oz is an ambassador for and helped to establish HealthCorps, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit that equips teenagers with nutrition, exercise, and stress management education in over 50 schools nationwide. Television Oz was featured as a guest co-host on The View, and has appeared as a healthy living expert on Good Morning America, Fox & Friends, The Dr. Oz Show, The Nate Berkus Show, The Tyra Banks Show, LXNY, Dayside, Good Day New York, The Geraldo Rivera Show, KTLA Morning News, and Fox Chicago News at Noon. Oz is one of five co-hosts on ABC's The Chew which premiered in September 2011.
