Andy Baldwin is the son of Baldwin, Jr., a former two-term Pennsylvania Republican State Representative (R-97th District), and Cynthia Laulani Baldwin, a high school mathematics teacher. Baldwin graduated as valedictorian of Manheim Township High School`s class of 1995. He worked as a paper boy, lifeguard, and had his own lawn mowing business to earn money for college, saving $25,000 before graduating high school. During high school, he played basketball, tennis, football, baseball, and was an All-American swimmer. He was named ESPN`s National Scholar Athlete of the Year in 1995.
Education, training and career:
Baldwin attended Duke University, where he was a member of the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps, and from which he graduated magna cum laude in 1999. He was also a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, whose motto is "Scholar, Leader, Athlete, Gentleman."
Upon graduation, he was commissioned an ensign, United States Navy, and received a four-year Navy Health Professions Scholarship to attend the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, graduating in 2003. He subsequently completed an internship in general surgery at Naval Medical Center, San Diego, in 2004, and was a medical officer for Naval Special Warfare Group Three in Coronado from June to December 2004. He completed the Navy Undersea Medicine Training Institute and Navy Dive School in June 2005. In July 2005, he was given a three-year assignment as a member of the Navy Medical Corps to serve as Diving Medical Officer for Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit One in Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii.
In 2006 Baldwin was asked to serve as group surgeon for a team of fifty military personnel headed to Laos. His role during the mission was to take care of the medical needs of his team and to treat Laotian villagers in need of medical attention.
After the death of an uncle, Tom, from pancreatic cancer, he established a fund to raise money for pancreatic cancer research.
Baldwin previously dated triathlete and model Lokelani McMichael. He also dated swimsuit model Jessiqa Pace. He was engaged to Tessa Horst, the winner of reality television series, `The Bachelor` (US People Magazine). Andy described Tessa Horst as the love of his life. They announced their engagement was off in August 2007, but they said they were still a couple.
The tenth season of the show, The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman, premiered Monday, April 2, 2007 (9:45-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC television network. Andy proposed to Tessa Horst on the season finale, which aired May 21, 2007. She accepted his proposal, despite some claims in the media that she had not.
ABC subsequently taped an "After the Final Rose" special to air the following night, May 22, 2007, which included a number of bachelorettes who had appeared on the series.
Less than two months after the finale, Horst and Baldwin called off the engagement.
On Monday, March 10th, 2008 Andy Baldwin was named the best bachelor on a special episode of the Bachelor titled Where Are They Now?

Lieutenant Commander Dr. Andrew James "Andy" Baldwin, USN (born February 5, 1977, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA) is a US Naval Officer, ironman triathlete, humanitarian, and physician. He is best known to the American television audience as the bachelor of the tenth season of the reality dating show The Bachelor dubbed The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman. On November 13, 2007, he told Honolulu, Hawaii's ABC TV affiliate KITV that he was shortly to be deployed to Bahrain. Marianas Variety, Micronesia's leading newspaper, recorded that LCDR Andy Baldwin "is part of the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) team conducting recovery operations in Palau."
