Rachel Luttrell (born 19 January 1971) is a Tanzanian actress best known for her role as Teyla Emmagan, an Athosian warrior leader on Stargate Atlantis.

Rachel Luttrell was born in Tanzania and moved to Canada with her family at the age of five. Her mother is from Lushoto, Tanzania and her father is a Louisiana native of British descent. Her classical studies included ballet (trained at The Russian Academy of Classical Ballet) and music (she plays the piano and sings) trained at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and by her father.
Her father participated in the internationally acclaimed Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.
Rachel (a Capricorn) has three sisters.
The beautiful and talented Rachel Luttrell demands attention in the hit cable-TV sci-fi series, "Stargate: Atlantis" (2004) as "Teyla Emmagan", the leader of a primitive alien civilization. Rachel is part of the successful television drama spin-off series, with more than 2.3 million viewers in its second season. The Canadian actress' past television credits include "ER" (1994), "Charmed" (1998) and "Touched by an Angel" (1994). She held the lead role of "Lisette" in the Anne Rice miniseries, Feast of All Saints (2001) (TV). Her other guest-starring roles include "Sleepwalkers" (1997), "In the House" (1995), "Dogs" (1997) and "Damon" (1998) (aka "The Damon Wayans Show"). Rachel's film credits include Impostor (2001), co-starring with Gary Sinise and independent films, The Aviary (2005), House (1995/II) and Joe's So Mean to Josephine (1996).
Rachel was born in Tanzania, East Africa, eventually immigrating to Canada at the age of five. She studied ballet at the prestigious Russian Academy of Classical Ballet School and also studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Rachel was brought up in a musical family. Her father, a former member of the critically-acclaimed, Mendelsohn Choir, trained Rachel's soprano voice. This musical upbringing has led to a varied "triple threat" career in acting, singing and dancing, each of which Rachel embraces and truly play a part in her success.
